Brandon! I heard about your visit the other day. I don't often leave the lab, but I happened to be out of town that day. As my assistant informed me, you came in to ask me about Clay Cartair. Luckily, I remember a few things, so I'm sending you a quick note.

Clay Cartair wasn't exactly a standout in Venelux. He had sharp eyes, but his deliberate style of speaking and cautious behavior often gave others the impression that he was clumsy and only possessed mediocre talent. Wherever he walked, his path was inevitably littered with the belongings that had spilled out of his bag. But these items were rarely permanently lost. More often than not, he'd take a wrong turn and find his way back, enabling him to recover most of the things he'd dropped along the way. But Clay was quite impressive when it came to acquiring knowledge. There isn't a corner of the Venelux Library he didn't touch. Can you guess what made him so eager? The answer is simple. He had a keen insight into the world and boundless curiosity. A wise mage recognizes the potential for future catastrophes, and he was already preparing for the day when he would be forced to combat them.

Mages in Venelux tend to have a strange sense of calling to save the world. Clay definitely falls into that camp. But even among those mages with a hero complex, Clay was different. His motivations seemed... purer, if that makes sense. That's why I kept a special eye on him. He's now serving with distinction in the Resistance, but back then he was never quite able to tap into his potential. I decided to keep my hopes for him a secret, worried that the attention would have a bad effect on him. Fortunately, he grew up quite a bit and seems to have become the best version of himself.
